At Maxtress Hair we love helping people put their best faces, and hair, forward. We understand that the better you look, the better you feel. That’s why we jumped at the chance to be a part of an amazing surprise makeover with beauty guru and freelance makeup artist PatrickStarrr.
PatrickStarrr is well known for his lively personality and the incredible makeup transformations that he posts on Instagram and his YouTube channel. His grand personality can only be topped by his giving nature, which is evident in the surprise makeover video he recently posted to his YouTube channel. About two years ago, Starrr did his first surprise makeover and it was something that he always wanted to do again. He felt compelled to do a second surprise makeover after meeting an amazing woman, April Hart.
Starrr met April over a year ago through Uber and was immediately taken with her story. April has been a driver for the elderly and senior citizens for many years. She also runs her own cleaning business, Hart to Hart Cleaning. April had recently fallen on some hard times and Starrr wanted to surprise her with a makeover to help boost her confidence and lift her spirits in time for the Christmas holiday.
April was lured to the makeover location believing that she was going to clean the home of a new client, but when April entered the home, she was shocked to find Starrr and a film crew waiting for her. The tears flowed as Starrr explained that he had arranged a glam squad to make her over from head-to-toe.
The Glam Squad
To make this head-to-toe makeover super special, Starrr enlisted the help of some friends and they were too eager to help him with his surprise for April. The makeover “glam squad” consisted of the Toronto-based hairstylist, Makeba, who created a custom wig for April using Maxtress hair.
Nail tech, Priscilla, was there to give April a trendy manicure and celebrity plus-size stylist, Tiffany Kaelin was there to assist with wardrobe and styling.
The Glamformation
April’s transformation began with Makeba styling the custom wig that she made especially for this occasion. Because this makeover was a total surprise, Makeba was not able to consult with April prior to making the wig and instead had to rely on photos to get an idea of her head size and shape. To be on the safe side, Makeba used a large, stretchy dome cap and Maxtress virgin Brazilian body wave hair to create the wig. April had never worn a wig before, so Makeba wanted to make the unit glamorous without being too over the top.
Makeba transformed April’s tresses into a sleek, sexy style that would be easy to maintain and wear every day. While Makeba worked her wig magic, nail tech Priscilla used products from her own line to work wonders on April’s nails. April prefers the natural look, so Priscilla used a nude color and a bit of glitter for a simple, yet glamorous manicure.
After hair and nails, it was time for Starrr to use his talents on April’s face. Starrr pulled out all of the stops and did a full on beat, including highlighting, contouring, and sculpted eyebrows. He completed April’s look with a pair of false lashes, which she had never worn before.
Fashion stylist, Tiffany, finished off the makeover by updating April’s outfit. Tiffany wanted April to have fun with her wardrobe and encourages everyone to play around with color, patterns, and textures when picking an outfit.
The Reveal
Awestruck is the only word that can describe April’s reaction after seeing herself in the mirror for the first time post-makeover. “This is not me,” she proclaims in an astonished whisper. We had the same response, as her final look was absolutely stunning. But the fun wasn’t over and more surprises were to come for an already stunned April.
Much to April’s surprise, Starrr managed to arrange for members of her family to be a part of her very special day. As April sat staring at herself in the mirror, her daughter and two sisters walked into the room and an already overwhelmed April broke down into tears. “How did you get them here,” April cries as she holds on to her daughter in an emotional embrace.
Starrr was aware that April was at a difficult point in her life and had fallen on some hard times. In the spirit of giving, he lavished April with a few early Christmas gifts. His friend and neighbor provided a makeup gift box for April and her family to share. She also received gift cards from CVS Pharmacy, Kmart, and Torrid, the retailer that provided her wardrobe for the makeover. However, the best present came from Starrr himself. He presented April with a check for $2,000 and she wept with joy. The tears didn’t stop and it was evident that Starrr’s gift meant so much to her. “Y’all don’t know what I’m going through,” she sobs and everyone in the room was touched by moment.
We are so thrilled that we could have been a part of something so very special. April looked beautiful in her Maxtress hair and the tears of happiness that flowed from her eyes were so rewarding. PatrickStarr and his glam squad did an amazing job transforming April’s look. From the hair to the makeup and clothes, April was a completely different woman from the one who had first come there to clean. At the end of the video, April’s daughter expresses how much her mother means to her through watery eyes. “She’s anything you want in a mother,” she states while struggling to hold back tears.
